SQL is Dead

At least, that's the title of one of the talks I'm giving at this year's MySQL User's Conference. I'm not going to spoil it by telling you everything here - but feel free to bring rotten vegetables to throw at me for when I say disagreeable things that make me sound like a kook.

If you see wheelbarrows full of pumpkins, it might be wise to skip the kookier parts :D

Very provocative title. I love MySQL for my private work, I love Oracle for my business work. I like generators as well. I can imagine to use any modell layer (ORM or whatever) for MySQL and simple queries to make work easier, but I never can imagine to use such a model layer at Oracle. Sure, they exist and will be used, but if you have to work with highly complex and (perfomance) optimized queries in a BI or DWH system you need direct access to the DB. I'm not talking about reading simple customer records into a GUI. SQL is a very powerfull "DB language" you dont want to have replaced by any model layer who is easy to use but restricts you in many other ways.
